February 11, 2015 Newsletter

Hard to believe we have just over 3 weeks left in the 3rd quarter. We might just escape any bad weather before our March track out. Fingers crossed!

ELA:

Students are reading nonfiction and determining the author’s point of view. They are learning to compare their point of view to the author’s. We will continue to read biographies and identify key details of a person’s life and contributions to society. Students will begin researching a famous person and learning to organize their information using a note taking chart.
In writing students are finishing up their mysteries and beginning autobiographies. Over the next few weeks they will begin using their notes from their biography research to write a paper on their person.

Math:

The students began the unit on fractions last week. They are enjoying the games we have been playing in class. They have been learning about equivalent fractions, explaining why fractions are equivalent and comparing fractions. Please look to the right under Helpful Documents and read the parent letters for information on these fraction standards.

Social Studies:

Students are studying the geographical regions of North Carolina. They will be researching and reporting on the various landforms, climates, people, jobs and places of interest. They will also be using longitude and latitude to locate places on a map.
